My trip is only half over, but I think it is already the rainiest Japan trip I have ever been on.
This evening it was raining again, but also windy and cold. No more than 274 Kelvin (10c). Luckily, Tsuruga has provided a very high quality roof that zig zags it's way through the entire town, much of it is new, I was impressed.
Because Tsuruga is such a small place, I had to be careful not to take every possible photo in one night, I need to string them out over 4 nights, so tonight I just went along under the roof down to the docks, where it was absolutely pitch black, too dark for photos. The rain soon became heavier, and I had to run back to the roof.
As for food options, I need not have worried, a lot of shops that appeared closed earlier behind garage doors, were open for dinner, with their garage door up.
Finally, the weather forecast says the sun will be shining, so I will do my longer of 2 planned Tsuruga hikes tomorrow. The train IC card situation has been researched, allegedly since I am travelling only on a JR line with no shared lines, I can use my IC card, even the remote unmanned station has an IC card reader. However Tsuruga station itself might require me to leap over security guards after I tap on for fear of tapping with the wrong hand at the wrong coloured entry gate at the wrong minute of the hour without first having collected the required stamps and had them both authorised and notarised.
The roof goes for miles, with lights strung up, and a lot of street art (statues). Note the cars all back into parking spaces, just like a country town in Australia.
A very poor quality photo of my dormy inn hotel from the outside, the tallest building around. It seems very popular, a huge number of people hanging around at reception frightened of the rain.
Night shrine! It seems extensive. Further investigation required when it is not raining.
The new roofs over the footpaths (sidewalks) continue. These ones are brand new by the looks of it.
Example of street art, a trip hazard giant shiny stone, and some random lanterns in a window.
Check out the roof! I was so impressed by this.
There are giant cocks all over Japan.
And finally, as threatened, Coco curry. I decided to have it night 1, in case there is a repeat required on night 4 due to lack of other options, but I doubt that will be required. There is even a large department store building with an eating area I have not shown yet.
