Melbourne To Myrtleford
No COVID restrictions this year. Left late in the day to drive from Melbourne to Myrtleford, about a 4 hour drive. Myrtleford is in what Victoria calls the alpine region, near Mount Buffalo, Falls Creek. It is also near Beechworth which was the xmas trip from 2 years ago.
View from the pod balcony. The accommodation is called a pod. A wooden detatched 2 level apartment joined by a deck to a larger accommodation house building thing.
However there is a bbq exclusive for pod people usage. There is a laundry inside the shed thing too.
An impressive 4 hour long storm rolled through and it rained a lot. Watching from the balcony was good. I tried to take lightning photos with the built in ND filter and some long exposures, but I could not time it right.

Myrtleford - Bright - Mount Beauty
Very hot today, no mountain climbing, just driving between towns and short periods outside of the car.
This is the Myrtleford main street, but it is not really, the main street is really the highway through town.
Bright main street. This place is too busy to move from lunch time onwards. The line in the Woolworths was already 100 people long.
Bright museum. Unfortunately, there is a fence around the train carriages, I had to shoot this through the fence from afar.
I had never been to the river area of Bright before where they have created a swimming pool and water amusement zone.
Main street of Mount Beauty. Quiet. The road to Falls Creek is still destroyed by a landslide so not as much car traffic would be coming this way.
Mount Beauty has a sort of airport, no planes came. There were paragliders floating above the town, but too hard to take a photo of.

Myrtleford - Beechworth - Lake Buffalo
Hot in the morning, pouring with rain now, surprisingly.
Today the journey went to Beechworth, location of previous holiday 2 years ago, then to Lake Buffalo (not mount) then to a lookout, then for a trip around the mosaic trail.
A church in Beechworth, town of many churches. This one appears to be made of concrete. Still hot and blue skies at this point.
Despite having a cafe inside they decide to run a food truck, for fashion reasons, and provide horrendous service for a tiny coffee, a feature of all food trucks.
The main corner in Beechworth. A lot of places that were closed previously during peak covid have changed hands and reopened, or just plain reopened.
Main street of Beechworth. Many people come here for daytrips from Melbourne, 3 hours drive each way at least.
Time for the mosaic walk. The walk uses part of the rail trail, then a walk around a good biking trail alongside the Ovens river. It is called the mosaic trail as there are mosaics of various animals made out of tiles embedded in the path, trees, sewer pipes etc. This is the phoenix tree, carved out of a tree by a German guy at a suspicious time. Apparently it includes a depiction of Haleys comet.
Last pic today, Mount Buffalo, probably more from the top tomorrow, rain permitting, it is bucketing down now.

Myrtleford - Mount Buffalo
Went to Mount Buffalo 2 years ago. It is a great place so went there again. Fog at first then blue sky.
The fog came and went a couple of times, back in the car park where the lookout was it was so thick that photos were useless.

Myrtleford - Magic Forest - Lakes
Last full day of holiday, visited a magic forest, 2 different lakes, back to Beechworth for lunch, more thunder but no rain.
Apparently the magic forest is a magical place to go, near Stanley which is a small town near Beechworth.
It is hard to find, on various logging tracks with trail bike riders, but right in the middle is a stand of old growth trees.
Apparently the idea is to come here and eat mushrooms at midnight and wander around all night terrified. I figured that out from some of the reviews on google.
Returned to Beechworth to the more reliable but much smaller Lake Sambell. A Chinese garden is under construction nearby.
