Melbourne 12
It is April fools day, so I replaced my 2 x broken (dust, water, failed repair) Ricoh GR III's with a cheapy Sony ZV-1. This camera is much like my old old Sony RX100 Mark 1, which I took more photos with than all other cameras combined. I have come full circle, back to a 1 inch sensor. The Ricoh GR III is my favourite camera of all time, but too fragile, I will buy version IV if they fix the dust issue for $anything. OK now onto the first shots from the cheap Sony.
Trams, zoomed in a bit, nearly all my cameras have been primes, so thinking of zooming at all will take a while.
Zoomed all the way in, the lens is apparently 24-70 equivalent, so it does not zoom in far, but it stays bright at 70mm, f1.8 to f2.8 across the range. I notice a bit of noise in the shadows already.
Less noticeable noise in the brown bits here, I suspect iso800 is as far as I would ever want to go, but that depends on how well the stabilization works. Alternatively, shoot jpeg and go for multi frame noise reduction, which is a fantastic feature of sony cameras.
I am taking a few shots in familiar locations to compare, comparisons to the sharpness of the Ricoh will not go well.
The colors and exposure metering are both good. This spot has tinted glass on both sides and in reality it does kind of look weird like this.
Kind of gets a bit of a 3d look, the real scene was perhaps a bit darker than this. Tricky due to the big window behind, but highlights through the window are ok.
Lots of mirrors and glass. I would prefer this to look, matte, which I know I can easily do in lightroom.
I have taken a roof dome shot many times. There is no apparent vignetting and the corners look good to me. The Ricoh had vignetting even with lens correction applied... which I kind of liked! I can do it in lightroom of course.
The profile is 'built in' to the Sony raw files in lighroom. I think this does more than the lighroom profiling of cameras and lenses without built in profile data, I will read more about that.
I think the photos are less distorted than my Ricoh, I will read about that too, it is confusing to undertand if it actually bakes in changes to Raw files or not, if the profile is applied in camera I am not sure how to see it un-fixed. That's all for now.
More of the same
Just some more walking around the river since the sun came out the day after buying the camera.
Shit photo, but taken to check for vignetting, even once corrected my Ricoh GR3 had a lot of vignetting, I am not seeing any here.
Full zoom again, not a lot of contrast in the cloudy areas, I could fix this with a mask, I often mask the sky, or shoot under exposed, here I am leaving exposure compensation on 0.
Good colors again, it is full sun here, so in reality it was probably a bit brighter than this in the highlights.
This one is a bit disappointing. In reality it looked more saturated. I did not hang around, the people at the end were smoking meth!
Very popular spot for photos. I like the Movida red sign in this one. This is where having zoom works well. Thats all for now, maybe some night shots to come.
