Brighton

At this time in 2 weeks time I will be in Japan, messing about with my new Sony a7ii, today to mess about with it I went to Brighton near Melbourne, as the weather was unusually warm. One thing I am messing about with is DRO for jpeg previews, I generally always make shadows grey and highlights grey, so to preview that effect in jpegs on the screen I am playing with DRO, otherwise everything looks too black before I make it less black from the raw.
If you dont know what I am talking about, stop reading now before I talk about 14bit vs 8bit and iso-less sensors with explanation via fractions.

The Middle Brighton train station, this is a photo I seem to take a lot, because I like train stations. Quite a bright day, but some light cloud, too green? Too sharp?

This is near the ancient Brighton baths, a walled off area of the ocean for people to swim in private, dating from back in the days when it was illegal for women to swim in public. The wooden wall is behind me.

Uninspiring photo of sailing boots with the city off in the distance. No colors.

5 minutes later and there are lots of colors. These are the Brighton beach houses. I am presuming you rent them on air bnb these days. Very popular on instagram. The sand here is very poor quality, I think they have trucked in some poor quality stuff due to erosion.

Moss covered rocks, perhaps the moss / slime / algae is due to it being near a sewage pipe outlet? I tried to make it more green, I need to work out how to use graduated filters.

Lots of huts and very blue sky, I like how blue this is, I didnt mess with it to make it this blue.

Very colorful. I had not been here before. The beach hut area seems to be two kinds of people, rich older white Australians and foreign tourists posing for instagram... and me in camo shorts with an enormous camera making people nervous.

Some more beach huts. I like the 3d separation in this photo.

Looking back the otherway, makes me very aware how much impact the angle of the sun has on the color of the sky.

Last one, fittingly featuring 'the wave' famous Japanese wood block carving. I made this one look a bit classic chromey.
